Juliette Colinas

PhD Candidate, Department of Natural Resource Sciences, Environment Option

Bio

Picture
Out of an interest in the environment and chemistry, I studied Biochemistry for my undergrad. There, I became interested in genetics, and pursued a doctorate in that field. However, at the end of this doctorate, I realized that the very premise of genetics (DNA being a code for the organism) is a fallacy. So I took some time to travel and work on farms, and studied some philosophy. Now I am glad to have found this field of ecological economics, which I feel has the breadth and depth of thinking required to address the complex environmental issues of this complex world.

Research interests

I am interested in many things and currently in the process of finding a research topic. Current ideas include: the future of food without oil, green cities, organization of societies, science and the environment.

Other interests

I love being in the outdoors and doing crafts projects (pottery, wood work, renovation, sewing). Also I love growing vegetables and dream of one day living on a small farm (with chickens, goats and a horse), from which to feed myself and my family – whether this dream is realistic or not remains to be seen.
